The Disney Twisted-Wonderland game will be adapted into a three-season anime.

Also shown were the release date and a teaser image.

The Walt Disney Company’s 2024 content showcase event in Singapore today unveiled that the three-season anime adaptation for the Disney Twisted-Wonderland mobile game, developed by f4 samurai, and published by Aniplex, has finally been greenlit, after first being announced back in 2021.

The first season, titled “Episode of Heartslabyul”, is expected to premiere on Disney+ in October 2025. “Episode of Savanaclaw” and “Episode of Octavinelle” will premiere at some undetermined date.

A visual of the seven dorm leaders and production staff for the anime were also revealed.

While Chief Director and series composition come in the form of Takahiro Natori (TOKYO MEW MEW NEW), he will not be alone in his passion project Disney Twisted-Wonderland: The Animation as he collaborates with fellow Zero-G company where Studio Yumeta Company and Graphinica share the responsibilities together with writer Yoichi Kato and character designers Haruka Nakano and Akane Sato who modified Yana Toboso’s (Black Butler) original designs to fit the animation task.

The original game’s English website describes the world’s concept:

Summoned to Twisted Wonderland, a world utterly unlike your own, through an enchanted mirror, you find yourself at Night Raven College, a prestigious school of magic.

With nowhere else to go, you accept the masked headmage’s hospitality and begin searching for a way home. You quickly find out that these students of this school are talented and dysfunctional-they will always bicker and compete with each other.

Can you work with them to get back to where you came from?

And what secrets hide behind the wicked hearts of these students?

Anticipated Outcomes of the Three-Season Anime Adaptation

Season 1: An Overview of Night Raven College

The first season will focus more on the orientation of the protagonist and the mysterious environment surrounding Night Raven College. Viewers will get to know the housewardens and the students in one of the seven dormitories: Heartslabyul, Savanaclaw, Octavinelle, Scarabia, Pomefiore, Ignihyde, or Diasomnia.

Each dormitory is under the influence of a Disney antagonist and presents characters such as Riddle Rosehearts, inspired by the Queen of Hearts, and Leona Kingscholar, motivated by Scar from The Lion King. The anime is aimed at exploring the intricate relationships between these characters even as it sets up the main story.

Season 2: Character Arc Deep Dive

The second season will comprise those individual arcs pertaining to the housewardens and their respective dorms. Each storyline will explore the motivations, the struggles, and the transformations of the main characters-for example:

Riddle Rosehearts’ journey could highlight themes of authority and rebellion.
Azul Ashengrotto, the housewarden of Octavinelle, might be plagued with issues through ambition and trust.
The animated series will make keen viewers go through heavy emotional scenes and some mighty confrontations while inhabiting these remarkably complex characters.

Season 3: To Untangle the Main Mystery

It will probably tackle several mystery questions surrounding Night Raven College, the origins of the protagonist, and a bigger connection towards the villains in Disney. Expect heavy battles, plot twists, and a climactic ending that wraps everything up from these first two seasons of the show.

Visual and Narrative Difference

To this day, the studio behind the adaptation of Twisted-Wonderland remains unannounced. Still, people’s expectations of it remain extremely high. Considering the history between Disney and these Japanese anime production studios in the past, audiences can expect stunning visuals, smooth animation flows, and a musical score complementing the storytelling. With great attention to art style, the adaptation is supposed to greatly follow Yana Toboso’s original designs, keeping up with the gothic refinement and allure that fans adore.

Reasons for Fan Enthusiasm

The announcement of a three-season anime adaptation has sparked a wave of excitement across social media platforms. Here’s why fans are eagerly awaiting its release:

Faithful Representation of Loved Characters:

Fans want to see the animation and voice acting bring their favorite characters to life, as in Malleus Draconia, Vil Schoenheit, and Jamil Viper.

Augmented World-Building:

Although the game provides an introduction to the realm of Twisted-Wonderland, the anime possesses the capability to broaden the narrative framework, delving into regions and narratives that have not been previously examined. This will be a harmonious fusion of Disney’s narrative techniques with Japan’s proficiency in anime, which results in the most distinctive contribution to the entertainment industry.

For New Audiences:

The anime could successfully serve as a good introduction for those unfamiliar with the video game, bringing across its deep storyline and complex characters.
